Telemetry is a technology that allows the remote measurement and reporting of information/data to various or single authorised sources. The word is derived from Greek roots tele = remote, and metron = measure. Telematics on the other hand has become a commonly used term by the transport industry to define connected vehicles interchanging electronic data. These systems include functions such as Automated Toll Collections (ATC), Road usage (intelligent transportation systems), auto insurance, tracking (fleet telematics), cold store logistics, stolen vehicle recovery, location-driven driver information services and more particularly, Dedicated Short Range Communications DSRC in-vehicle early warning (car accident prevention) notification alerts.
